Welcome to the Department of Aging and Adult Services – Public Guardian website.
In support of the California Master Plan for Aging, our staff and contract vendors support building a “California for All Ages & Abilities”. The department provides a wide range of programs and services to older adults, individuals with disabilities, their families, and caretakers to support healthy aging across the lifespan.
Our new website is designed to help you easily find the information and resources to support aging in place in the least restrictive environment.

Who We Are
The Department of Aging and Adult Services – Public Guardian empowers older adults to age in place with choice, independence, and quality of life. Our department promotes healthy aging across the lifespan. We envision a county where older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers thrive.
What We Do
The department provides protective and supportive services to promote the health and safety of older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout the county. We collaborate with County agencies, community-based organizations and public stakeholders to accomplish our mission of protecting older adults and individuals with disabilities and promoting healthy aging across the lifespan.
It’s in our name:
Aging: As the designated Area Agency on Aging, the department receives Older Americans Act funding to provide health-related social and nutrition services for older adults.
Adult: Our adult programs include Adult Protective Services (APS) and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). Both programs are designed to ensure the safety of older adults and individuals with disabilities.
Public Guardian: The Office of the Public Guardian acts as the court-appointed conservator of last resort for those who are unable to provide for their basic needs.

Our Staff
